The Race of the Future Champions, now in its 50th anniversary year, was officially presented at Terre di Luni. The 2025 edition will feature five stages over four days of racing, covering a total of 399 km. Also revealed were the 29 participating teams – including 12 national selections – and the leader jerseys, once again signed by Alka.

Terre di Luni, 31 July 2025 – With 35 days to go before the official start on 4 September, the 49th edition of the Giro della Lunigiana has been officially unveiled. For the first time in its history, the race will kick off in Genoa and conclude – after five stages over four days – at Terre di Luni. The estate in Ameglia hosted the official presentation, following a preliminary institutional event held two weeks earlier at the Press Room of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.
The presentation brought together numerous guests, including institutional representatives, sponsors, race supporters and stage committees. Among them were Stefano Garzelli and Alessandro Petacchi, who will join Ivan Cecchini in providing race commentary throughout the event.
The fourth edition of the women’s race was also announced and will be presented in detail in the coming days.
THE ROUTE
04/09 – STAGE 1: GENOVA – CHIAVARI, 95.4 KM

A historic start in Piazza De Ferrari, with a neutral roll-out to km 0 at Quarto, in front of the Monument to the Thousand. The stage unfolds entirely in the province of Genoa and includes three KOM climbs, notably the Scoffera, a Category 1 climb. It’s a lively profile, with Chiavari again hosting the finish, as it did in 2023 when Maxime Decomble took the win.
05/09 – STAGE 2: LUNI – VEZZANO LIGURE, 96.3 KM

A demanding stage with five KOM climbs, including three ascents of the final hill, which also hosts the finish line. Riders will also tackle classic climbs such as Ortonovo and Montemarcello.
06/09 – STAGE 3A: EQUI TERME – MARINA DI MASSA, 54.4 KM

The only stage suited to the sprinters, with a flat profile and no elevation challenges. Last year, the coastal finish saw Belgian Aldo Taillieu sprint to victory.
06/09 — STAGE 3B: PONTREMOLI – FIVIZZANO, 52.1 KM

A stage set entirely in historic Lunigiana, linking two symbolic towns of the territory. A now “classic” uphill finish suited to climbers with a fast kick. The last three winners – Lenny Martinez, Paul Magnier, and Jarno Widar – have all gone on to shine on the world stage.
07/09 – STAGE 4: LA SPEZIA – TERRE DI LUNI, 100.7 KM

The final stage begins at the “Picco” Stadium and features a challenging profile. After a first passage through the finish line, riders will climb Fosdinovo via Castelnovo-Vallecchia, the Cima Coppi (highest point) of the race and home to the Graziano Battistini Trophy. It will be the toughest climb of this year’s edition.
